Compound number 13: Skeleton / Death
Chaldean compound · reduces to 4 · Mixed
Cheiro's reading of 13
Cheiro insists 13 is not the unlucky number it is usually taken for; he reads it as change of plans or place, and as power that turns destructive if misused. He also treats it as a warning of the unexpected.
How a name reaches 13
In the Chaldean system every letter of the name is added into one total. When that total is 13, Cheiro reads 13 first and then the single digit it reduces to: 1+3 = 4. Read number 4 for the single-digit meaning.
Cheiro used compound numbers mainly to judge names and dates. These readings describe his tradition's view; they are not predictions.
Is 13 a lucky number?
Cheiro's reading of 13 is mixed: it has favourable sides and a warning attached.
Names that add up to 13
Some common first names whose letters add to 13 in the Chaldean system: Divya, Priya, Vani, Alice, Laura, Lucy, Luis, Juan. For example, Divya: 4 + 1 + 6 + 1 + 1 = 13. A full name adds the first name, any middle names and the surname together.
13 in dates
For dates from 1940 to 2019, adding every digit gives totals from 4 (1 January 2000) to 48 (29 September 1999). Of all dates from 1940 to 2019, 1.6% add up to exactly 13. That whole-date total reduces to the Bhagyank, here 4.
As a day of the month, the 13th gives Mulank 4. Born on the 13th.
Other compounds that reduce to 4
22, 31, 40, 49. Each has its own reading, though they share the single digit 4.
What the single digit 4 adds
Four is associated with foundations: routine, reliability and patient effort. It is read as practical and dependable; the shadow side is rigidity or resisting change. In Cheiro's method the compound gives the colour and the single digit gives the underlying nature; both are read together.
How one letter changes 13
Adding a letter raises a Chaldean total by that letter's value, from 1 to 8 (no letter is worth 9). This is why a doubled letter or an extra vowel can move a name to a different compound:
