About numerologywise
numerologywise is a free numerology calculator that shows its working. Every number on the site comes with the arithmetic that produced it, in both the Pythagorean and Chaldean systems, so you can check it yourself.
How the numbers are worked out
- Pythagorean letters: A to I are 1 to 9, then the count starts again (J = 1 … Z = 8).
- Chaldean letters: A I J Q Y = 1, B K R = 2, C G L S = 3, D M T = 4, E H N X = 5, U V W = 6, O Z = 7, F P = 8. No letter is worth 9. This is the table Cheiro gives, and the calculator reproduces his worked examples.
- Vowels and consonants: A, E, I, O and U are vowels. Y always counts as a consonant.
- Pythagorean name numbers: each name is added and reduced on its own, keeping 11, 22 and 33; the results are added and reduced again.
- Chaldean name numbers: every letter is added into one compound total, such as 23, which is then reduced to a single digit.
- Life Path: month, day and year are each reduced (keeping 11, 22, 33), then added and reduced.
- Birthday: the day of the month, reduced, keeping 11 and 22.
- Mulank: the day of the month reduced to 1–9. Someone born on the 11th is a Mulank 2.
- Bhagyank: every digit of the date added and reduced to 1–9.
- Accents and other alphabets: accents are removed (é becomes E). Letters outside A–Z are listed as skipped, never silently dropped.
How name verdicts work
The verdict compares your Chaldean name number with your Mulank and your Bhagyank, using the number families in Cheiro's Book of Numbers:
- 1, 2, 4 and 7 are one family; 3, 6 and 9 are another. Numbers in the same family are in harmony.
- 5 gets on with almost any number (neutral) and best with another 5.
- For a 4 or 8 birth number, Cheiro warns against 4 and 8 repeating and advises a strong name number: 1, 3, 5 or 6.
- Anything else is not in harmony.
Other traditions use different tables, so other sites may give different verdicts. We use one named source and say which one.
How spelling suggestions work
Suggestions make at most two small changes that keep a name's sound: doubling a vowel or a consonant between vowels (Maya to Maaya, Anil to Annil), adding or dropping an H after T, D, S, K, B, G, C, P or J (Sita to Shita), swapping I and EE or U and OO, swapping a final Y and I, or adding an H after a final vowel. A suggestion is shown only if it scores better against both birth numbers, or hits the number you asked for.
Mobile numbers
Cheiro does not cover phone numbers. Mobile number numerology is a modern convention: we add every digit, reduce the total to a single digit, and apply the same number families. The mobile page says so.
Compatibility
Two people are compared three times: Mulank with Mulank, Bhagyank with Bhagyank, and Chaldean name number with name number. Each pair uses Cheiro's families: same family is in harmony; 5 is neutral with every other number and in harmony with another 5; 4 with 8 or 8 with 8 is not in harmony, as Cheiro warns; and two 4s are neutral, because he advises 4 people not to double their number. We don't add the three into a percentage, because no source does.
Personal year
A modern Western convention, not from Cheiro: the reduced birth day, birth month and calendar year are added and reduced to 1–9. A personal month adds the calendar month. Years are counted from 1 January.
Lo Shu grid
The classical Lo Shu square (4 9 2 / 3 5 7 / 8 1 6) is Chinese; placing birth-date digits in it, and reading missing numbers and planes, is modern practice that differs between teachers. Zeros are left out. Adding Mulank and Bhagyank to the grid is optional.
Full chart
The full chart follows Hans Decoz's published method (worldnumerology.com), in Pythagorean values:
- Maturity: Life Path plus Expression, reduced. Decoz doesn't say whether 11, 22 and 33 are kept; we keep them, as for the core numbers.
- Balance: the initials of the full birth name, added and reduced to one digit, master numbers included.
- Hidden Passion: the value that appears most often among the letters of the full name. A tie gives more than one.
- Karmic Lessons: values from 1 to 9 that no letter of the full name has.
- Karmic Debt: 13, 14, 16 or 19. Decoz names the core numbers where they count but not how to find them; we use the common method: the number appears as a total on the way to the Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge or Personality, or is the day of birth.
- Pinnacles: month, day and year (digits added) are each reduced, keeping masters. 1st = month + day, 2nd = day + year, 3rd = 1st + 2nd, 4th = month + year. The 1st ends at 36 minus the Life Path (a master Life Path reduced first), the 2nd and 3rd last nine years, the 4th the rest of life.
- Challenges: month, day and year reduced to single digits, masters too. 1st = difference of month and day, 2nd = day and year, 3rd (main) = the first two challenges, 4th = month and year. 0 is possible.
Also from Decoz: Rational Thought is the first-name total plus the Birthday number (his example: Thomas 22 + Birthday 3 = 25, and 2 + 5 = 7). Subconscious Self is 9 minus the number of Karmic Lessons. Cornerstone, Capstone and First Vowel are the first letter, last letter and first vowel of the first name, read through their number. Transits: each letter lasts as many years as its value from birth, first name for Physical, middle name(s) for Mental, last name for Spiritual (the last name gives both when there's no middle name; a single name gives all three, our choice); Essence adds the three. Age Digit adds your ages either side of this year's birthday and reduces. Planes of Expression follow Decoz's published chart: Physical E (creative), W (vacillating), D M (grounded); Mental A, H J N P, G L; Emotional I O R Z, B S T X; Intuitive K, F Q U Y, C V. Each plane shows how many letters of the full name fall in it and their values added and reduced; the calculator reproduces his Tom Cruise chart (4/9, 5/7, 9/9, 2/6).
Lucky dates and colours
From Cheiro's chapter on each number. A date is rated by its day of the month reduced: your own number is best, then the interchangeable numbers Cheiro names (1 with 2, 4, 7; 2 with 1, 4, 7; 3 with 6, 9; 4 with 1, 2, 7; 7 with 1, 2, 4; 8 with 4; 9 with 3, 6; none for 5 and 6). It is marked stronger on one of your fortunate weekdays and inside your period of the year. Where Cheiro gives a period's end as a week ("20th–27th"), we use the later date. Colours, stones and weekdays are paraphrased from the same chapters.
Name correction and daily numbers
Name correction uses the same small, sound-keeping spelling changes as the calculator's suggestions (at most two), scores each spelling's Chaldean number against the Mulank and Bhagyank by Cheiro's families, and shows only spellings that do better or reach the number you choose. Aaj ka Ank applies Cheiro's date rules for each birth number to the chosen day: own-number dates, his interchangeable numbers, fortunate weekdays and strong periods; it is worked out, not written as a forecast.
The same numbers under other names
Many numbers go by several names. Destiny number means the Expression in Western books and the Bhagyank in Indian practice; Inner Dream and Heart's Desire are the Soul Urge; Attainment is Decoz's Maturity; Naamank is the Chaldean name number; "ruling number" is used for both the Life Path and the Mulank. The Sun number (birth month plus day, reduced) is Decoz's; "Attitude number" is a modern name for the same arithmetic. Each single-number page says which it is.
Personal day
Personal month plus the day of the month, reduced to 1–9, as Decoz describes. Days follow the date on your device.
Kua number
The Kua number is from Feng Shui (Eight Mansions school), not numerology, and is labelled that way. The year starts at Li Chun, about 4 February. Add the digits of the year and reduce to one digit (s). Men: 11 − s, reduced; a result of 5 becomes 2. Women: 4 + s, reduced; 5 becomes 8. Kua 1, 3, 4 and 9 are the East group, 2, 6, 7 and 8 the West group. The four favourable directions follow the usual Eight Mansions table. Both results are shown because the formula depends on sex and we don't ask.
House and vehicle numbers
Cheiro advises living in a house whose number suits your own. We add every digit and give letters their Chaldean value; address words (Flat, Door, No, Block, Floor, Street and similar) and ordinal endings are ignored. Letters in addresses, and vehicle numbers as a whole, are our convention rather than Cheiro's.
Compound numbers and associations
Compound readings for 10 to 52, and the planet, days, colours and stones for 1 to 9, are paraphrased from Cheiro's Book of Numbers. Where the scanned text was unreadable we say so rather than fill the gap.
