How the Life Path works

The Life Path is the most widely used number in Western numerology. It comes from the full date of birth: the month, the day and the year are each reduced to a single digit (keeping 11, 22 and 33), then added together and reduced again. Because a birth date can't change, it is read as the direction of a whole life rather than a passing influence.

Not every Life Path is equally common. Single digits other than 2, 4 and 6 each cover about one date in nine; 2, 4 and 6 are rarer because some of their dates are counted as the master numbers 11, 22 and 33 instead.

In Indian numerology the whole-date number is the Bhagyank, which is always reduced to one digit, so a Life Path 11 person has Bhagyank 2. The day of birth alone gives the Mulank; see birthday numerology.
