Life Path 9 as a direction
A Life Path 9 is read as a journey of completion and compassion. Nines often feel drawn to wider causes and experience many endings and beginnings. The lesson is to let go gracefully and to give without losing yourself.
Life Path 9 in relationships and at work
Nines are generous, romantic partners with a big heart and broad sympathies. They can give too much or hold on to the past; letting go cleanly is part of their growth.
Nines suit work with a wider purpose: teaching, the arts, social causes, healthcare support roles, law, international work, charities. They need to feel their work helps someone.

A common calculation mistake
Take 2 January 1968. Adding every digit at once gives 2 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 8 = 27 → 2 + 7 = 9. The separate method gives 9. Here both methods agree, which is usual for single-digit Life Paths.

How Life Path 9 is worked out
Reduce the month, the day and the year separately, keeping 11, 22 and 33, then add the three and reduce again. Some examples that give 9:
- 2 January 1968: month 1; day 2; year 1 + 9 + 6 + 8 = 24 → 2 + 4 = 6; 1 + 2 + 6 = 9.
- 3 January 1985: month 1; day 3; year 1 + 9 + 8 + 5 = 23 → 2 + 3 = 5; 1 + 3 + 5 = 9.
- 7 January 1999: month 1; day 7; year 1 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 28 → 2 + 8 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1; 1 + 7 + 1 = 9.
Adding all the digits in one go usually gives the same single digit but can hide a master number, which is why the separate method is used.
