Seeing 1:11 on a clock

1:11 is one of the times people notice most, simply because a repeating pattern stands out. Read it the same way as 111: through its digits and their sum.

111 in Indian and Chaldean numerology

Chaldean and Indian numerology always reduce to a single digit, so 111 is read as 3. Cheiro links 3 with Jupiter, with Thursday, Friday, Tuesday as its days and Mauve, Violet among its colours.

Work it out yourself

Add the digits (1 + 1 + 1 = 3), keep adding until one digit remains, and read that number. For sequences of ones or twos, also look at the pairs: 11 and 22 are master numbers.

Sequences with the same core number

444, 777, 3333 also reduce to 3.

Where the idea comes from

Angel numbers are a modern idea, not part of the Pythagorean or Chaldean systems. Hans Decoz writes that he saw no mention of them before the mid-1990s and treats them as an offshoot of numerology. The name itself is usually credited to Doreen Virtue's 2005 book Angel Numbers.

Why repeating numbers stand out

Clocks, receipts and number plates show us thousands of numbers a day, and the brain is built to notice patterns. Once a sequence like 111 has caught your attention, you start noticing it more often; psychologists call this the frequency illusion. That doesn't make the moment meaningless, but it does mean the meaning comes from what you bring to it.

If you keep seeing 111

Notice what you were thinking about or doing at the time; that is usually where the reading applies. Nothing on this page predicts what will happen; any warning shown is Cheiro's reading of a compound, labelled as his.
